Burning Cigarettes

It seems frivolous to take care of oneself
and stay healthy,
When your spirit is waning
as the smoke drifts from your lungs
after escaping a fire,
Where you barely got out alive.
But once it’s gone
And you have got away from that
Flaming mess
There is a strange void
that can only be filled
By burning cigarettes.
